What ’ s your story ? Video mediated learning for volunteer workers in a music festival

This paper presents an approach of dealing with the problem of digitally mediating learning in the temporary organization of a music festival. In pursuing the track of stories as central for learning in a workplace context, the paper discusses the role of a video storytelling artefact as mediating this type of learning. The artefact, named The Well, makes it possible for festival workers to record their stories on video and to publish them in order to share them with the rest of the organization as well as with the coming generation of festival workers. The purpose of The Well is to make volunteer festival workers’ roles visible by relating their personal accounts of their work within the organization. To inform the design of the video storytelling artefact an ethnographic study of the festival organization was carried out. A user centred design process with active involvement of festival workers complemented the ethnographic study. Finally, data are presented from a study in progress, including interviews with new festival workers of the festival 2006 about the potential of video clips.
